Pinterest taps Amazon, DoorDash execs to build its ad platform

Pinterest named Claudine Cheever, who was formerly Amazon’s VP of global brand marketing, as CMO, and Lee Brown, who was most recently chief revenue officer of DoorDash, as chief business officer on Tuesday. 

Cheever’s tenure at Amazon included leading five Super Bowl campaigns as well as AI product marketing, notably for Alexa. Brown, who is set to report directly to Pinterest CEO Bill Ready, previously more than doubled Spotify’s global advertising business as the tech platform’s advertising chief before his time at DoorDash. His new role involves boosting “Pinterest’s evolution into a performance-driven advertising platform,” as stated in Pinterest’s announcement.

“It’s an important moment for us as we continue to grow our business globally,” Pinterest CEO Bill Ready announced via LinkedIn. “Lee is a proven business leader with deep experience leading global sales and content teams at beloved consumer apps and publishers. Claudine has spent the past decade leading marketing for the world’s largest online retailer.”

MrBeast directs Salesforce’s Super Bowl LX campaign

Social media giant MrBeast, who has over 560 million combined followers across his main platforms, announced this week that he’s taken creative control over Salesforce’s Super Bowl LX commercial with hints of a $1 million fan giveaway.

Salesforce, a customer relationship management brand that’s recently tapped A-listers such as Matthew McConaughey to star in its commercials, tapped MrBeast for its Super Bowl campaign after the creator offered up his commercial idea to brands via an X post on December 29.

“I’ve been sitting on an amazing Super Bowl commercial idea for years. I know it’s random, but someone please let me make your brand’s Super Bowl commercial so I can finally make this idea happen,” he posted to his 33.8 million followers on the platform.

Nikon hires new AOR 

Following a competitive pitch, Nikon selected Born Social as its social agency of record in the U.S., the camera equipment company announced Thursday. Using Nikon’s cameras and lenses and shooting strategies from Nikon’s training, Born Social is tasked with creating content that “impel a younger, social-first audience,” Nikon said in its announcement. 

Focusing largely on educational content that “breaks down the benefits and nuances of the latest mirrorless technologies,” and content that provides tips and techniques, Born Social will aim to “lower the barriers to photography, attract new audiences and strengthen Nikon’s role across both photography and cinema,” according to Nikon’s announcement.

App updates

Spotify — the world’s largest audio streaming platform — announced AI-powered Prompted Playlists on Thursday. After a successful pilot in New Zealand, Spotify Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada will be able to input a scenario such as “please curate a playlist of high-energy hip hop hits that I can play throughout my boxing training session” to receive a curated playlist.

Self-driving Waymo robotaxis, which have gained popularity in Los Angeles and San Francisco, are expanding to Miami. The city has nearly 10,000 residents on Waymo’s waitlist, according to the brand’s Thursday announcement. The brand also plans to expand to Miami International Airport.
